TRANSMISSION PRINCIPAL (PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER)
SEnergy is seeking a proactive, assertive, take-charge leader who has a high level of experience in Transmission Engineering and a Professional Engineering license to lead and mentor a division of the Company. 

The successful candidate will have 10 or more years of successful experience in Transmission Engineering for the power industry. The candidate should be an analytical thinker and have a history of experience in solving complex problems. This candidate should have 10+ years of experience in leading teams with a progressive track record.

The position is located at our Houston office and may require some overnight travel to project sites.

Transmission Principal Job Summary:

The Transmission Principal is a senior engineer that is recognized for achievement in the industry and within our Company.  They are leaders focused on cross-organizational mentoring, employee development, process improvement and connecting project work to business strategy.  The role involves being a force multiplier by advocating for best practices, reminding staff of why processes exist and helping less experienced engineers and consultants “level up”.  The role focuses less on the day-to-day tactical and more on long-term strategy and action plans and developing efficiency, expertise, and skills within the organization.  The position is unencumbered by the politics of titles and organizational hierarchy.   The Transmission Principal collaborates with executive leadership and contributes to business strategy.

The Transmission Principal role is designated to key industry leaders and Subject Matter Experts that serve the most key role internally and externally for our primary lines of business.  Internally, the Principal is responsible for innovation, driving best practices, mentoring and training, market analysis, quality control, and final project delivery standards.  The Transmission Principal may also from time to time serve as project manager for key projects, or key Clients where their direct oversight is essential to the project success. 
 
Externally, the Principal is responsible for representing our services in the line of business to the Client base, and potential Client base. The Transmission Principal is a key element to existing Client Maintenance and to that end will work in partnership with the Business Development group for scheduling, leading, and participating in Client check ins, attending key development meetings, and building a booking of business for the specialty they lead.
 
For marketing, the Transmission Principal is responsible for partnering with the Business Development group on new proposal and qualifications development, maintaining/improving project approaches, and focusing on economics of services and market position.  They must partner and work with the Business Development group to identify key leads and develop key strategic relationships in alignment with Company objectives.

Job Accountabilities:
  • Ability to solve complex problems through experience and/or collaboration 
  • Technical expertise in the field of Transmission Engineering including design of Transmission lines, poles, and towers using PLS-CADD.
  • Developing an effective Quality Assurance Plan (technical competence of engineers, designers, and consultants).  The Quality Assurance Plan developed by Principals will be executed by the Delivery Department.
  • Developing and executing an effective Quality Control Plan (technical accuracy of products and services).
  • Project Management: experience managing large projects greater than $250,000; assist Sr. Management on market and availability; quality assurance and quality control of projects they oversee; accuracy and completion of billing process and financial matters
  • Business development:  ability to define market opportunities and produce short range market BD plan- identify potential projects, strategies for existing Clients and new Clients; active role in Client related activities and proposals
  • Turn commoditized services into value-added solutions.  Identify the unique value of the solutions and educate SE staff on unique benefits, customer insights, and points of differentiation.  Collaborate with the Business Development & Marketing group to develop value-added solutions.
  • Developing bookings of work and backlog for existing Clients.
  • Developing skills, knowledge, abilities in the engineering, design (office-based Designers and Transmission Designers), and consulting staff.  Developing core competency documents to guide this development.
  • Developing and training best practices.

Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Support, motivate and positively influence others; mentorship of employees
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build/maintain relationships.
  • Leads and coordinates various engineering and consulting functions and operations including cross-organizational execution of the quality assurance plan.
  • Builds depth in teams they influence by holding quarterly trainings and mentoring individuals.
  • Provides strategic direction for Company goals, high-level oversight, and resolves critical issues. 
  • Support, motivate and positively influence others
  • Be an ambassador for Company both internally and externally. Lead by example.
  • Monitor pulse of Clients regarding satisfaction with SE services and SE personnel with regular check-ins (quarterly at minimum) while addressing and resolving any sensitive issues that arise, internally and externally.
  • Establishes, communicates, and implements engineering, consulting, development policies, practices, processes, standards, and quality assurance measures to ensure effective and consistent products and services.
  • Technical leader for a line of business.  Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, emerging technologies, materials, and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve our product and production efficiency.  Represents a line of business to our Clients.
  • Collaborates with the Company’s executive leadership to develop and meet organizational goals while supplying expertise and guidance on projects to the engineering, technical, and consulting staff. 
  • Performs market analyses and submits reports to the Company’s executive leadership.
  • Creates project proposals.
  • Performs project management duties as required with an emphasis on leveraging time by assigning projects and tasks to project managers.  Develops and trains project managers.
  • Collaborates with administrative managers, leads, and supervisors to develop APR goals for engineering, technical, and consulting staff.
  • Identify and coach/mentor the next Principal candidate.
  • Complete accurate timesheets daily.
  • Various other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:              
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • PE License
  • Possess strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills and able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • 10 years’ experience in Transmission Line design for the Energy industry
  • 10 years’ experience in progressive management
SKILLS:          
  • Strong (effective) written and verbal communication skills, exceptional computer skills, with emphasis in project management, spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Strong skills of time management, organizational and multi-tasking.

PHYSICAL:    
  • This position requires the ability to listen and hear, good eyesight, sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands and arms.
